Godzilla, a name that many people know. Whether you grew up watching the classic science fiction films from yesteryear or you simply know him by his reputation, Godzilla is an icon in film as well as pop culture itself. Originally created in 1954 by the Japanese studio Toho, the Kind of Monsters has starred in 28 feature films, as well as being used in comics, novels, and video games. Godzilla left a giant footprint in sci-fi history, so much so that even has his own star on the Walk of Fame. Now with film technology at the peak of it's performance and the high level of production, Godzilla returns to the big screen in an attempt to bring back the fantastic nostalgia for fans of tokusatsu (a scinece fiction film that uses LOADS of special effects) and fans of the original films themselves.<br />
<br />
The story first takes place in 1999, where in the Philippines, a giant skeleton has been discovered in a quarry by the team led by Dr. Serizawa and Dr. Graham (Ken Wantanabe and Sally Hawkins). It also appears that some...<i>thing</i> has escaped from the underground tomb leaving a very large hole in the process. We then meet Dr. Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston), nuclear physicist at the Janjira nuclear power plant. When a seismic event causes some damage at the plant, Brody's wife and team go to investigate. However another event causes the core of the plant to overload and the team is trapped within the plant as his collapses. Jump 15 years later, where Dr. Brody is still investigating what actually happened that day. His son Ford (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), also heads to Tokyo to bail his dad out, after he is arrested for crossing into the quarantined zone. But Brody's assumption is correct, as something buried deep in the underground rises back to the surface, along with it's oversize mate. When all seems lost, as our most high tech weaponry has no effect on these creatures, another colossal creature from the deep returns, GODZILLA! As he, according to Serizawa, is the natural predator toward the two <i>Muto</i>, he may be humanity's savior and bring balance back to the world.<br />
<br />
First off, let me say the film has a very, <i>very</i>, slow pace to it. At some points I pretty much was yelling at the movie to get on with the action, but I realized that its pace was a good thing. The slow and steady speed of the film helps build up the tension for what's coming. This prevalent the first time we see Godzilla in all of his glory. It seemed he became larger than life, smashing through everything that was in his path. However the slow pace of the film also is something that can't be ignored. It was like the monsters didn't show up for hour it seemed. But still if you have the patience for it, the wait for the big, BIG reveal is well worth it.<br />
<br />
Effects wise...I mean do I really need to say it? It was GLORIOUS to see a fully rendered CGI Godzilla. To see it there standing in the middle of an airport or in a city like San Francisco just took my breath away. Until I realized that, we didn't really see that much of the monsters overall. Yes we saw some impressive fights and the mere presence of Godzilla was awe inspiring, but in the end we only get to see him a only a handful of times. We actually see more of the monsters Godzilla fights more than the main man himself. Speaking of which, the monsters that are the threat to the world, are a bit lackluster in design. In fact I couldn't help but make a comparison with the two monsters and the monster from the film <i>Cloverfield.</i> Although, much like Godzilla, they have a certain presence about themselves that make them impressive to look at.<br />
<br />
On to the acting side of things, this is where the film may disappoint most. We have some pretty big named stars in this film but sadly all deliver the same performance. The performances from Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Wantanabe, and all the rest give off a monotone delivery that left me uninterested in what they had to say. The one that stands out the most in my opinion is Bryan Cranston as he plays a stereotypical scientist gone mad role, but he adds a certain charm to it. You feel a bit emotional to what he lost and how he goes about trying to uncover the mystery to what actually all those years ago.<br />
<br />
Despite all my griping and complaints, I still had a real fun time with this film. I may have not seen all of the original Godzilla movies but after this it makes me to go exploring through my local store's bargain bin and try and find more from the King of Monsters.<br />

<a name='more'></a><br />
It's a known fact that Marvel Studios knows what they're doing when it comes to making feature films. Their success began with the launch of their "Phase 1" series, which started with <i>Iron Man</i> starting Robert Downey, Jr as the titular hero. Other heroes included in "Phase 1" were The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and the hero in today's movie, Captain America. This series was developed carefully, choosing these specific heroes which would ultimately lead to the superhero team up movie <i>The Avengers.</i> Now with the launch of "Phase 2" we're getting even bigger movies like <i>Iron Man 3, Thor: the Dark World, </i>and now is the release of the 2014 blockbuster, <i>Captain America: The Winter Soldier.</i><br />
<i><br /></i>Taking place sometime after the events of the <i>The Avengers</i>, Captain Steve Rogers tries to play catch up with the years he's lost and has also become an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., the secret organization that aids the world from global terrorist attacks. While on a rescue mission to save hostages from a S.H.I.E.L.D. ship at sea, Rogers discovers that teammate Natasha Romanoff (the Black Widow) has her own mission of extracting data from the ship's computer about a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. plan known as Project Insight, a plan which involves three Helicarriers, a lot of guns, and the means to eliminate a lot of enemies, but whose enemies exactly? We start to see an old enemy of Captain America's past returning and its up to him and a new team to thwart their nefarious plans.<br />
<br />
From here, the movie takes an interesting direction, bringing up topics such as eliminating our personal freedoms to ensure the security of our nation, or perhaps fighting for said freedoms knowing that they could lead to argument, debate, and violence. This story takes a smart decision in my opinion. Comic books often times take real world events and experiences and develop a complex situation that all readers can relate to, and I'm really glad that Marvel's Movieverse is taking this step as well. I can see this film being used as a tool for future debates about these very same issues. The story here is what makes the movie shine the brightest. It's smart, it's entertaining, and it makes the movie a huge hit.<br />
<br />
While the story is something worthwhile, the acting is, well not so much. Don't get me wrong, the performances from all the returning stars (Evans, Johansson, & Jackson) are at the same level if excellence from their previous films, but that's a bit of a problem. I would have loved to seen more from these actors as the situation from the first Captain America movie, to the <i>The Avengers</i>, to this film has escalated. However some of the new stars in the film stand out pretty well. Anthony Mackie, who plays the Marvel hero Sam Wilson aka Falcon becomes who could be labeled as the Cap's new best friend. Robert Redford also does a good job portraying the war torn acquaintance Nick Fury, who may be more involved than you may believe. In the end, the acting, while not a huge highlight with previous characters, is still something to bring up as it moves the story with making new friends and enemies on both sides.<br />
<br />
This is film is definitely one to be seen in theaters and if you haven't seen either <i>Captain America: The First Avenger </i>or <i>The Avengers, </i>I suggest doing it now so you can play catch up and enjoy the ride.<br />

In a world where adaptation over original storytelling is the general norm, Hollywood has done its job to make films to capture the attention of the younger generation. It could be traced back with the release of the Twilight films, based on the tween novel series and after the huge financial success of those movies studios wanted to get their hands on other teen series books to find the same outcome. And there have been quite a number of films based on these genres of books; The Hunger Games, Blood and Chocolate, Beautiful Creatures, just to name a few. Now the newest book to be adapted into a film is the 2011 novel Divergent.<br />
<br />
Set in a post apocalyptic future after the events of World War Insert Number here, we see that the city of Chicago has survived because of the development of a five faction system. These factions include: Amity, those tasked to farm and harvest; Candor, who are lawgivers and justices of society; Dauntless, who simply are the military force/police; Erudite, who provide of the scientific endeavors; and Abnegation, who provide care for the less fortunate and those who have no faction. They also are the governing class over all the other factions, despite the fact the movie mentions that EACH faction has their own leader, so why couldn't they form a five member council and vote on decisions is beyond me.<br />
<br />
Each year, the youth of this society takes an aptitude test, which includes an observed chemically induced hallucination, to determine where they exactly belong. Usually they just wind up back in their home faction but these kids have the option to later change their minds and pick a whole new faction to be a part of.<br />
<br />
Tris Prior our main antagonist, played by Shailene Woodley, a member of Abnegation, sadly suffers from Disney Princess Syndrome, where in that she feels like she doesn't belong to her group and wishes to see more of the world. When it comes to her test, it turns out that her results that she is a Divergent, a rare occurrence in the system that somehow poses a threat to the rest of the factions. Because of their rebellious nature they are immune to forms of manipulation and mind control, and therefore they don't follow the norm of the society. However when a coup is organized by the Erudites led by Jeanie Matthews, play by Kate Winslet, it's up to Tris and others to thwart the plans and rebel against their entire way of life.<br />
<br />
Going into this movie I expected a somewhat copy of The Hunger Games, a story of teenage freedom fighters trying overthrow a government led by the corrupt and more mature members of society, but sadly this was not the case. Instead...we have another 'Twilight Rip-off.' Our lead actress Shailene Woodley unfortunately gives a wooden performance for almost two-thirds of the film, and only really emotes near the end. The other performers follow this example, such as Theo James who plays Tris's love interest Four. Kate Winslet performance, while not wooden, is ultimately forgettable which is the most upsetting as she's essentially the biggest name attached to the movie.<br />
<br />
The plot is also something to question, as it comes off very confusing. Throughout the movie I had to keep asking why a Divergent is such a bad thing. Sure it could disrupt the general operation of things, but I would imagine being a Divergent would be a good thing. Not only do they not succumb to subliminal suggestion, but they also think and strategize differently than the other factions, so therefore they would be perfect for military applications. Whatever the excuse, the rest of factions of an unreasonable fear and that in turn effects the story overall and in the end, makes it a dull and boring movie.<br />
<br />
The only good thing I could say about the movie is that the faction system is a pretty interesting concept. Each one with a certain set of skills and abilities that is used to improve the lives of others, while at the same time creates a sort of tension and animosity between the factions. Also another good thing to point out is that the film was shot in Chicago, the as where the book was set in, so I guess we should applaud for consistency.<br />
<br />
In the end the movie was a dull mess and if you have to see it get it at a RedBox Vendor, or you can just read the book. <br />
<br />
My final score for Divergent:<br />
<br />

I watch My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and I'm proud of that. I find the humor to be something that really clicks with me, I think that animation and artwork is cute and fun, and I believe that characters and story tell a lesson that is prevalent for the shows demographic, mostly small children.<br />
<br />
When I heard that Hasbro Studios was creating a spin-off to the series titled Equestria Girls, I was perplexed. The idea of the Mane Six (yes that's a title the main characters go by) were going to be transformed into real girls in High School (I assume) just...I don't know. My eyes went wide, I lost my sense of words, and I actually wanted to throw something against the wall out of nerd rage. It happens, what can I say.<br />
<br />
So to sort of, "vent," I decided to let the guys from Game Grumps say what I was feeling. Enjoy!<br />

Decided to dig up an old term paper I wrote for a film class I took WAAAY back during my 2nd semester at school. It was about how comic books were the next medium that film studios want to adapt. It probably has a lot of typos and grammatical errors, but I passed the class so I it turned out well.</div>
<div style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
Pretty lengthy, but I think its good.<br /></div>
<a name='more'></a>During Hollywood's
beginning<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> writers have penned some of the
greatest stories of all time<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> From Citizen Kane
to Casablanca<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> screenwriters were able to convey
a story that could touch people in ways only a few things in life
could possibly do<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> Also during these beginnings<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
books were adapted to the big screen as well<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> and
some have been just as successful<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> The most
famous and most successful one being Gone With the Wind<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
which was originally published in 1936 and because of its popularity
it was turned into a film three years later<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> and
it was just as successful<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> The film won multiple
awards at the Oscars<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> including Best Picture<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
Best Director<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> Best Adapted Screenplay<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and seven others<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> It still remains a huge
financial success<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> making a little over $400
million and with inflation<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> would make almost $3
billion dollars<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> This just shows that books are
a great source for film material<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> Now in this
day and age<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> a new medium is used for film<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
This medium being<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> comic books and graphic
novels<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span><br />
<div style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
<span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%; margin-bottom: 0in;">
There
has been some criticism in Hollywood when it comes to comic books and
film<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
The origins first started with television and movie serials<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and it mostly was geared toward children and not for adults<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
Most of these serials were shown in the 40's along with comics like
Batman<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
Superman<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and Captain America<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
However during the 1950's comic books came into some controversy as
the Senate viewed them as tools “corrupting the youth<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>”
At this point in time<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
several comic book publishers started putting out gritty and horror
themed stories<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
often depicting intense violence<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and moral crusaders often blamed comics as a reason for drug use<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
a drop in grades for students and committing crimes itself<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
These comics caused the publishers to create and adopt the Comics
Code Authority<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
which regulated the content they had<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and by doing this caused which included:</div>

These regulations were for the comics of
1954<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> but several have adjusted as time went on<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
such as the depiction of violence and homosexual overtones with
certain characters<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> As a result of these types
of stories and the new regulations<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> the comic
book industry took a hit and essentially put an end to the comic book
film<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> It would be the end<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>

who then sold the character to Detective Comics</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">

The character took off with huge popularity and later appeared in
radio dramas</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">

The film was released in 1978<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
and holds the number two spot for highest grossing films of that
year<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> just under Grease and more than The Deer
Hunter<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> The film depicted the origin of the hero
and how he became the hero he was meant to be<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
The film first takes place on planet Krypton<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
where Superman<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> or Kal-El for his alien name<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
is born<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> His father Jor-El<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
who is the planets Science Adviser<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> warns the
Council that their planet is facing serious seismic activity that
will destroy their planet in a manner of days or even less than that<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
The Council rejects his claims<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> and says if he
continues to spread these claims he will be charged for causing a
riot<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> When they disperse Jor-El returns home and
prepares the ship he has built to send his son to Earth<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
He and his wife discuss why their son should be sent to Earth<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
Jor-El says that the atmosphere of Earth will change him<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
giving him abilities far greater than any being on Earth<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span>
As he finishes the preparations the planet starts to have a massive
earthquake<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> Jor-El sends his son off the planet
as their world is destroyed<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span> As Kal-El's journey
ends<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> his ship crash lands on Earth in a field
located in Smallville<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> Kansas<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span>
where he is raised by John and Martha Kent and he grows up to be the
man that is<span style="font-size: medium;">,</span> Clark Kent<span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> The
opening of the movie shows us a typical science-fiction movie</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
where we see a world that is totally different from our own</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
In the comics the planet Krypton has been depicted as a city of the
future</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
but in the film its seen as if it wore a civilization with a type of
crystal technology</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The story then takes a turn during the second act in the story by
showing Superman as a Christ like figure</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This is evident by the dialouge said by Jor-El</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
he says that he has given up his son to and he describes what his son
will become on this new world</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Before he becomes Superman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Clark goes on a journey to the Arctic to discover his origins</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and to guide him is a crystal his father</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This crystal holds a virtual AI that holds a program resembling his
father</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
It tells him that he holds all he knows to make a difference on this
world</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
With his newly acquired knowledge</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
the third part of the film has Clark Kent in the city of Metropolis
where he can use his powers for good</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This part is where the comic book elements really shine</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Kent's persona changes to an accident prone reporter for the Daily
Planet</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
a local newspaper</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and here he meets Lois Lane</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
a female reporter who is more outgoing than some of the men</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
She is also the one who titles the new hero when he makes his first
appearance in the city</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.
</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">We
also meet the villain of the film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Lex Luthor</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
who actually refers to himself as</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">

is when Luthor hijacks two nuclear missiles which he plans to launch
one on the San Andreas Fault to destroy California and make the miles
of barren land he bought a new real estate location</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The other is launched at He challenges Superman to stop the missiles
from hitting</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The way he tells him this</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
pretty much defines him as a comic book villain</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
He sends out a signal that only those with four legs can hear it</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
so its like the silent whistle that affects dogs</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Clark hears this while in his boss's office and since all of his
abilities are enhanced beyond a normal humans</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
he can hear this hidden message while no one else can</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Luthor's goes to explain the situation</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
his plot</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and orders Superman to engage him in his lair</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Lex Luthor in this film makes it a true comic book movie</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
but mixing the elements of an actor</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
who we can see and relate to</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
with the attitude of someone who cannot possibly exist</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"> </span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">The
character Superman is also one with the most pretense of any other
character I've seen in film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Most people often think that Clark Kent's alter ego is Superman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
but they are actually mistaken</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Superman was given the name Clark when he crashed landed on Earth
when he was a child</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Superman uses his alter ego to help blend in with normal humanity
and he pretends to be weak and mild-mannered so no one can make the
connection that both people are one and the same</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Also</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
there is some foreshadowing to the hero as we can see his father
Jor-El bearing the iconic Superman “S</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">”
I did some research and the writers of the film wanted to make the
“S” a family coat of arms</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
so Superman seems to wear his family's symbol as a sort of tribute to
their memory</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
More research says that comic book writers have made the symbol into
the Kryptonian word for “hope</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">”
adding more foreshadowing to the character</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
since he is a new hope for the world</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Superman:
the Movie</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><i>,</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>
</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">is
the film that launched the Superhero Film back in the air</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
with an origin story of a man that we can almost associate with
Christ or a Christ-like figure</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
There are characters that reflect their comic book counterpart</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
with a hero with strong ideals and morals and a villain that is both
diabolical and campy</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The Because of this film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
future heroes have gotten the chance to make a big screen debut</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.

<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> The
next film I viewed that is part of the Superhero Film genre</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
is based on a hero who is much different than Superman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Instead of having super powers</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
this hero trains vigorously and uses his own skills and talents to
fight crime</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The hero I'm talking about is Batman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
whose origin is similar in someways to Clark Kent's</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
When billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne was eight years-old</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
he and his parents were coming out of a theater and took a short cut
through an alley</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
They were then confronted by a thug wielding a gun who demanded for
their money and jewelry</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
but in a panic state the thug shot and killed Bruce's parents leaving
him orphaned</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
When he became older</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
he used his inheritance to travel the world to train with an
assortment of teachers of combat and stealth and use this training to
achieve his new goal in life and stop crime</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
When he returns home after his months of training he now must create
a symbol for himself</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
one that will put fear into criminals because</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
as he puts it</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
“Criminals are a superstitious cowardly lot</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">”
As he is contemplating</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
a bat flies in through the window</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
which inspires Bruce to become this creature of the night</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and so he is now</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Batman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> The
character Batman was created in 1939</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
by the team of Bob Kane and Bill Finger</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Kane took most of the credit for the creation of certain characters
in the world of Batman and for creating the mythos behind Batman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Some of the major influences that Kane had while creating the hero
came from such other heroes like Zoro</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
who was also a wealthy man disguising himself to fight criminals</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and the famous detective Sherlock Holmes</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
whose main weapon was his mind</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
These two inspirations eventually evolved the Batman character</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
making him a wealthy man with the alter ego of a crime fighting
detective</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">

</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">a
much newer film than the Superman film coming out in 2005 and it is
much different than the Batman film from 1989</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
which focused on the darker</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
grittier side of the character</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The first film doesn't really give us an origin to the hero and
instead gives us the idea that Batman has been doing this for a
while</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
building up some kind of urban legend of himself</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Batman
Begins </i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">gives
us the true origin story of this particular hero by dedicating a good
portion of the opening to the character development of Bruce Wayne</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
We witness the murder of his parents</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
we see him grow up into a young adult stricken with vengeance and
during the trial of his parents killer he plans to murder him inside
the courthouse</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
When leaves his home of Gotham City</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
he meets a man named Ras Al Guhl</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
leader of a group known as the Society of Shadows</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
which trains men and women to be capable of taking justice and order
into their hands</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Bruce eventually trains with him and with their aid he is now a
master of combat and stealth</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
However</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
when his final task is to execute a thief he cannot come to do this</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
He says that he wants to fight for justice but does not want to sink
the the levels of the criminals themselves</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Ras Al Guhl says that if he can't follow orders he will be removed
from the order</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
permanently</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.
</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Bruce
fights his way out</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
burning down the dojo in the process</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and returns to Gotham to use what he has learned on his war in crime</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> What
set Batman apart from Superman was that he had no powers at all</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
all the skills he used to stop criminals was all his doing from years
of training</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This made Batman a more down-to-earth hero in my opinion</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
as he dealt with crime of the everyman</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Superman could do the same but his main focus seemed to be world
issues</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
I guess to reflect on how powerful he is</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Batman also used fear as a tactic when he fights</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
sticking to the shadows and using his bat-like appearance to his
advantage</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This has been a constant theme when it came to the character and
it's still used to even this day</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Batman
Begins </i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">was
a critical and commercial success and it's sequel </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>The
Dark Knight</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
became a larger</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
being the most recorded as the most successful comic book film ever</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Batman is a interesting and complex character that more films can be
made based on him and have the same effect on future audiences</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>

<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> The
last film I watched is the most different compared to the previous
two</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
It's different in the sense where it didn't focus on a single hero
but a different individuals altogether and their stories where told
in more of an anthology style</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The comic I'm talking about is </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><u>Sin
City</u></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
by Frank Miller who wrote and drew this series</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This was an ongoing series coming out in the early to mid 90's</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and it had a much more darker</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
gritter</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and violent tone but the artwork was able to stylize it all</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The stories in this series were often ones focusing on a particular
character but in some cases they would crossover into another
character's story</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
giving us the idea that all these people can and are aware of each
other</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The comic is heavily influenced on film-noir as it's drawn mostly in
black and white</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Other colors such as red</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
yellow</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
blue</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and etc</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
are used to help the reader focus in on a certain character</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The writing of these stories is given a pulp fiction and detective
feel</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
as certain metaphors and similes are used</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
</span></span>
</div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> With
it being a popular series of comics</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
winning multiple awards</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
it was clear that it would eventually adapted into a film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and it was in 2005</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
It was directed by known director Robert Rodriguez</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
who has a knack for doing such films that feature gritty violence in
a noir-like setting</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Frank Miller also was brought in to direct</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
because Rodriguez wanted this film to stay as faithful to the comic
as it possibly could</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and he was very successful at it</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
</span></span>

<img align="BOTTOM" border="0" height="304" name="graphics3" src="http://www.bibi.org/box/2005/abril/Marvin.jpg" width="273" />
<span style="color: black;"> </span>
</div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> What
Rodriguez did was take the graphic novel and use the panels as the
storyboards for the film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
On a behind-the-scene feature</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Rodriguez is actually seen holding print outs from the graphic novel
to help set up the scenes</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The entire film was like this as it was a shot-for-shot adaption
from comic to film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and it help the overall look of the film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.
</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">The
film also has a huge cast</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
that included Bruce Willis</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Mickey Rourke</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and Elijah Wood</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Having a well packed cast helped draw in the audience and make it
more commercial for everyone</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.
</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">Other
films that came out much later</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
such as </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>300</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><i>,</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>
</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">another
Frank Miller comic</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>The
Watchmen</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><i>,</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>
</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">which
is a famous work by writer Alan Moore</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
were also adapted into their respected films and they to were
developed to be filmed where the panels of the comic were used as
storyboards and help make the film more true to the original source
material</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The biggest way Rodriguez made this film so close to the film was
that he used green screen to help create better backgrounds</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
looking like they do in the comics</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Also camera filters which converted the film to the grainy black and
white colors made the film more like the comic</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
since it too was drawn with mostly black and white</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> </span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><i>Sin
City</i></span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
is not really a comic that has ideals and morals that people can
relate to</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
This comic probably would add more rules and regulations to the list
if it were published during the same time as the Comics Code was
established</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
The comic and this film is more meant to stir action with the
audience</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
rather than teach them a lesson</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="line-height: 200%;">
<span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"> Over
the years</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
more and more comics</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
graphic novels</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and superheroes are being adapted into film</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
They prove that they are a great source material</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
providing great stories</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
action</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
ideals and morals</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
and characters that are well remembered since their earliest origins</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
They also can inspire others to stand up for what they believe in</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">,</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
as some of these heroes fight for those who cannot fight</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">
Superheroes play an important part in todays society as do police
officers and firefighters</span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size: medium;">.</span></span></span><span style="color: black;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">

Yeah I'm on the verge on completing another semester and will be back to my old job at the theater. Which means I'll have plenty opportunities to watch newer movies and writing scripts of "The Popcorn Jockey Presents." In the meantime, check out my first riff on a short I went back and re-edited. Hope you find it funny.<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

School started up again and I got while living down here as well. Well the job isn't working out so well, so that may change in the next couple of days. In the meantime, the next couple of reviews are going to be on films that have been out for a while in the style I've been doing as of now, where I find clips of the movie online and use that to help my review. But now thats going to change, as I'm changing the format of "What's Playing" from a scripted show, to a V-Log style of show. I think a scripted opening would still be a good way to open each new episode, but it will be faster for me to edit and put them out. When it comes to the "The Popcorn Jockey Presents Series" I'm still working on scripts as I go to school at the same time, so the next one for that may take some time.<br />
<br />
I really hopes this works out and to those who have watched my videos and view this blog, I appreciate the support.<br />

As I am dealing with some minor computer issues and my new semester at school is about to start, new videos will be scarce.<br />
<br />
So in the meantime, I did a bit of Q & A session with the audience of a Dark Knight movie marathon, where my local theater played the first two Nolan movies and then The Dark Knight Rises at midnight.
<br />
<br />
I left it uncut so it feels more real, or something, I don't know...ENJOY!<br />

Yeah, pretty much what I made here can sum up my feelings towards the movie. Disney/Pixar's <i>Brave</i> is a film that I have been waiting for. Combining the beautiful 3D animation I know Pixar is capable of, the interesting and whimsical story that Disney has done before, and creating a character that I can hold dear to my heart.<br />
<br />
Like most Disney Princesses, Merida (Kelly Macdonald) wishes for something more in her life and wants to become her own legend. Unfortunately her mother Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson) wants her to continue the tradition of royalty and molds her into a primped and proper princess. After an argument between the two, Merida winds up in a witch's den and seeks out a potion or spell to help change her fate.<br />
<br />
This story really touched me as I can remember and reflect the decisions I have made myself into becoming the man I am today. There could have been times I could gone one way, but decided to do another and this film can help lead some of the younger crowd come to that realization. Merida wants to shape her own destiny but she learns that the people around you can help make the mold as well. Her mother is a powerful character that is written very well and I can tell that she wants the all the best things for her daughter.<br />
<br />
The most surprising thing I'll say in this review is that, the 3D is actually really used well. It offers a lot of depth and and exposure to this Celtic land and it fully immerses you in the experience of everything. The comedy is also really well done as there was never a dull moment with any of the characters, especially Merida's little triplet brothers, who actually never speak in the movie and had their actions speak louder than their words.<br />

Some of the comedy may be a little risque for some viewers so I advise parents to take heed when seeing this with your children. There are also some moments where things do get a tad scarier than normal Pixar films. However this movie will keep you entertained throughout and I urge everyone to see it.</div>

<i>P.S. I should get a video out fairly soon of some older movies I saw in the theater, so stay tuned.</i></div>The Popcorn Jockeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14353873666354991361noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2379342724705550687.post-53057131024085236032012-06-17T12:52:00.001-07:002012-06-17T12:52:34.278-07:00An Announcement to EveryoneHello all! No, I'm not dead! :-D<br />
<br />
I like to take this opportunity to let everyone know I am still trying to write and shoot video reviews, but with my other job at the theater, most of my time is taken up. I think I figured that since I was able to put out the first episode of "The Popcorn Jockey Presents" I would have a certain momentum to write more scripted reviews, shoot them, and edit them. BUUUUUT that wasn't the case...<br />
<br />
HOWEVER, for the time being, I'll post up written reviews whenever I get a chance, and/or turn my "What's Playing" series into a half scripted, half improvised style of show. Kinda like a V-Log, but not really. If I happen to get one of my friends in the video I'll call them that, but if it's just me, I'll count it as another episode of WP.<br />
<br />
So I appreciate the patience...to anyone who actually goes to this blog and read/watches what I have to say, and please stay tuned for more to come<br />
<br />
Thank You.The Popcorn Jockeyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14353873666354991361noreply@blogger.com1
